Alvin “Inky” Kekolo Kaio, 59, of Keopu died Nov. 30 at home. Born in Koolauloa, he was a construction laborer for Hawaiian Dredging and Construction Company, member of the Labors Union Local 368 and a lifeguard. Perfecto Jara Mercado, 68, of Ka‘u died Dec. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Sisim, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he worked for Ka‘u Sugar and Macadamia Nut Company. An all-night vigil Friday at the family residence (Mamalahoa Highway No. 11 in Naalehu). Visitation from 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Naalehu Assembly of God Church.
